Practical Translation Training at the Universidad Europea de Madrid
Dr. Celia Rico leads the Translation Technology courses at the Department of Translation, Universidad Europea, where she has also founded the Agencia Traducción Solidaria UEM, a non-profit initiative to train translation students in vocational competencies. In 2016, Celia decided to introduce her students to cloud translation tools through Phrase’s Academic program.
At European University of Madrid, thanks to Phrase, students learn to set up and execute whole translation projects: From TM creation, through choosing the best MT engine depending on the job, to delivering post-editing work.

Preparing students for the reality of the translation industry
With Phrase TMS, Celia set up a course that is unique because it prepares students for the real needs of the translation market. “Students learn to set up and execute whole translation projects: From TM creation, through choosing the best MT engine depending on the job, to delivering post-editing work.”
Celia uses Phrase TMS for this course for several reasons. “First, it is very easy to use (I can quickly register my students in the platform and they can immediately start working); second, it is a professional tool and as such, it includes key tools (TMs, terminology management, MT, and post-editing features). Finally, my students can complete whole translation assignments in Phrase TMS and learn to manage translator teams.”
To apply the theoretical knowledge students gain, Universidad Europea cooperates with several external companies to provide students with a three-month internship in their last years of study.
